Why A Scrapbooking Kit Is Perfect For Beginners |
If you have always wanted to start your own scrapbook, but feel daunted by the wide array of products available in stores, a scrapbooking kit is the erfect place to start.
A scrapbooking kit usually includes most of the basic materials to make nice pages for your scrapbook. They may include some or all of the following:
* Solid colored cardstock
* Patterned or textured papers
* Stickers or embellishments like beads or flowers
* Frames or borders for your pictures
These kits vary greatly in prices, sizes and selection of materials included. However, some of the things which may not be included in a scrapbooking kit include glue, scissors and the scrapbook itself. Some of these things you may not even need. You can make a very nice scrapbook with just the materials that come with the scrapbooking kit. Just think, no mess, no glue, just some scissors, and your pictures. If you do want to add some other items into our scrapbook, make sure they are acid-free so that they do not damage your pictures and can be archived indefinitely.
The biggest advantage of buying a scrapbooking kit is that half the work is already done for you. Most kits focus around a particular theme like baby girl, wedding or holiday and because their supplies share the same color theme, you need not buy more stuff to complete your first few pages.
For instance a scrapbooking kit with a summer theme will have bright-colored cardstock, beach ball or ice cream patterned papers and stickers with words like surf, summer fun, lemonade, sand castles and the like. All you have to do is choose a few of your favorite summer pictures, mount them on to the coordinated backgrounds, add some journaling and voila, you have your first scrapbook page!
Another reason why a scrapbooking kit is a good idea is that it provides free inspiration on how to lay out a page or creative ways of using borders and mats. You could just duplicate what you see on the package or adapt it to suit your photos and memories.
Because a scrapbooking kit takes out a lot of the guesswork from this popular paper craft, many people pressed for time or resources, often turn to these pre-packaged kits. In some cases, a scrapbooking kit may even turn out to be cheaper than buying all the materials separately.
Veteran scrapbookers do not rely on a scrapbooking kit as much because they have accumulated a large collection of supplies over the years and love to mix and match as much as possible.
You too can use your imagination even when using a scrapbooking kit because you need not use all the materials in the kit immediately. You can use the basic supplies and customize your layout. For example if you are making a scrapbook page for your son’s graduation, you could include some personal notes about how you felt or a funny quote of what your son had to say on the special day. You could glue on the graduation program and perhaps even the tassel from his graduation cap.
The possibilities are endless and a scrapbooking kit is just the first step on your journey to discover them. If you have a specific theme you want to make, get that sort of kit, otherwise, get one of the general scrapbooking kits. Any of these will make you an accomplished scrapbooker with your very first try.
