Urban infrastructure, housing and energy projects, with a total registered
capital of nearly VND25,000bil (US$1.5bil), continued to dominate investments in
the construction sector during 2006, the Ministry of Construction said.
The ministry had approved nearly 500 construction projects in
2006, with 63 projects in Group A, the most important and biggest projects, 268
medium-sized projects in Group B and 159 smaller ones in Group C.
Of the total registered VND25,000bil investment this year. Group
A projects accounted for VND15.415bil (less than $1bil).
The ministry said enterprises, responsible for these projects,
were very actively implementing them, though they faced problems like site
clearance or loan availability.
Some of these projects were delayed because of procedures
related to project site compensation and reclamation policies, while some others
may be suspended, a serious problem faced by the country over the past years.
The ministry has asked enterprises to work closer with
localities, where the projects are being implemented, and advance payments on
contracts to finish projects on time.
