AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) - hang chip xu ly doi thu truc tiep cua Intel, du kien dua ra bo vi xu ly cong nghe 65 nanometer dau tien vao qui 4 nam 2006. Bo vi xu ly nay duoc san xuat tai nha may o Dresden Duc. Nguoi phat ngon cua AMD cho biet: muc tieu nham den cua bo vi xu ly cong nghe 65 nanomet la laptop, PC va may chu. AMD du kien chuyen toan bo cong nghe 90 nanometer (1 nanomet bang mot phan ty met) sang cong nghe 65 nanometer vao giua nam 2007. Cong nghe moi cho phep thoi gian chip xu ly nhanh hon va tieu ton it nang luong hon. Dieu nay giup toi uu hon nua, hieu suat lam viec cua laptop va may chu.  Chip su dung cong nghe moi 45 nanometer dang duoc AMD va IBM dau tu nghien cuu. Truoc day, du kien bo vi xu ly 45 nanometer dau tien se duoc thuong mai hoa vao cuoi nam 2008.Nhung vao cuoi thang 8/2006 doi thu cua AMD, Intel da chuyen sang che tao bo vi xu ly cong nghe 65 nanometer hai nhan dual-core 64-bit Xeon 7100 co ten goi Tulsa.AMD hy vong bo vi xu ly cong nghe 45 nanomet se duoc day nhanh trong nghien cuu va som dua ra thi truong vao nam 2007. Hien IBM va AMD dang trien khai de an nghien cuu che tao bo vi xu ly cong nghe 22 nanomet. IBM va AMD hop tac thu nho chip IBM va AMD dang len ke hoach keo dai thoi han hop tac giua hai hang them 3 nam nua trong viec che tao chip cong nghe 32 nanomet.Le ra, du an nay da ket thuc vao nam 2005 nhung nay ca hai hang cung dong y hop tac den 31/12/2008.Hien IBM va AMD dang hop tac de dua ra cong nghe moi cho tuong lai. Loi ich lon nhat cua du an chip cong nghe 32 nanometer la viec cho ra doi nhung con chip nho hon so voi nhung con chip 90 nanomet hien tai voi dien nang tieu thu cuc thap va toc do xu ly sieu manh. Su hop tac giua hai hang bao gom viec AMD se tra cho IBM tu 250 – 280 trieu USD trong vong bon nam. Doi lai IBM tiep tuc trien khai viec nghien cuu va phat trien cua minh tai New York. Chris Andrews nguoi phat ngon cua IBM cho biet: "chung toi vua moi cong tac cho ra doi chip cong nghe 65 nanomet, 45 nanomet. Va nay chung toi cung hop tac phat trien chip cong nghe 32 nanomet".
